Sarah Hunt’s activism began at the age 14, when she spoke about Indigenous rights at a rally for the Clayoquot Sound. More than 20 years later, Sarah continues to work as an educator and community collaborator on issues of colonial violence,self determination, law and power, sex work, gender and sexuality. Sarah is of Ukrainian and Kwakwaka’wakw ancestry, and is currently a PhD candidate at SFU and contributor to mediaINDIGENA.com.
Fatima Jaffer is a PhD student at the Interdisciplinary Studies Program at UBC, where she also serves as Editor-in-Chief of Cutting Edge, a peer-reviewed journal. A longtime activist and alternative journalist, she currently writes occasional guest columns for Xtra-West, is a VMC contributor, and is a member of Salaam Vancouver (Muslim LGBTQs), and facilitator of Trikone Vancouver, a South Asian LGBTQ group.
Itrath Syed is a PhD student in the School of Communicationat Simon Fraser University where her doctoral project involvesan analysis of “moral panics” and Muslim bodies in the West. Her MA work [Women’s Studies, UBC] explored the genderedand racialized construction of the Muslim community in the media discourse surrounding the Islamic Arbitration or “Sha-riah” debate in Ontario.
