A rally outside the Chinese Consulate in Vancouver

In 1949, the army of the People's Republic of China invaded Tibet and began a cruel and oppressive occupation that continues to this day. On March 10, 1959 the Tibetan people rose up against their oppressors, but the revolt was brutally put down. Thousands of Tibetans were killed and thousands more, including the Dalai Lama, fled into exile in India.

Tent City won't be silenced

A rally with over 200 protestors marched from Pantages Theatre in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver, to Olympic Village in False Creek.

The rally was the kick-off to the Olympic Village Tent City 2011. The tent city had three demands:

1. Resident-controlled 100% social housing for ALL unsold units at the Olympic Village.

Vancouver rally in support of Tunisian uprising

A group of around 60 Tunisian supporters rallied outside the Vancouver Public Library on Jan. 22, 2011. The solidarity rally recognized and thanked the efforts of Tunisian youth for the recent uprising that forced out President Ben Ali, and called on the Canadian support to support the revolution for democracy and freedom.

Dr. Norman Finkelstein at UBC: Israel and Palestine: Past, Present, Future

American scholar, Norman Finkelstein, toured Canada with the Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East from Oct. 26 to 30. His lecture, Israel and Palestine: Past, Present, Future, focused on the situation in Gaza, the raid on the S.S. Mavi Marmara, the current stage of the peace process and the prospect of another regional war.
