Walk4Justice left today May 29, 2009 at 10am from the Downtown Eastside Women’s Center for a 1500 km walk to Prince Rupert, BC
From Walk4Justice brochure:
We will walk to Prince Rupert, BC to publicly address the key issues faced by marginalized, missing and murdered women, children and their families. We will be demanding a public inquiry for the more than three thousand unsolved cases of missing and murdered women & children in the last 10 years. Sadly, 80% are Aboriginal. We are looking for ongoing support for the families of these missing and murdered women. We need action from the investigative, judicial and government bodies of this province to end this violence against our women.
One is too many, three (plus) thousand? That is a disgrace.
This walk is to stop this on-going violence against our women and children. We want to honor our lost, but, not forgotten women who have died through violence and/or are still missing for over 40 years. We want to demand action from the Premier Gordon Campbell, Attorney General, Public and Safety Minister, and all levels of the government to seek justice, closure, equality and Accountability and ask for a public inquiry into all of these cases we present to them. We want them to stop ongoing genocide and this legacy of systemic racism happening in this country. We want Accountability for the children of these women, they are our future leaders and we want them to know that somebody cares.
We want to raise awareness for the children for health facilities, counseling, cultural awareness, treatment centers and education facilities. We want to help build for these children’s futures and stop the violence against women for our future generations.
