Our great leader seems to have miscalculated and badly. As I said in the previous posting, not only is there general public disgust with the suspension of parliament, there’s media uproar from the editorial room in Toronto and apparently abroad as well. An excellent piece in what is hardly the most progressive publication; a neo liberal, globalists’ publication magazine par excellence, appeared in the latest edition of “The Economist”. The eloquent piece derides and scolds Stephenus Harperus Maximus’ blatant power grab.

This scathing article does not bode well for the conservatives. It looks like a potential Waterloo defeat for the ruling party in the upcoming elections. And they will come soon whenever they reopen parliament that is. Meanwhile, as the parliamentarians plan their strategy during their enforced extended winter-prorogation vacation, government business comes to a standstill. And voila! A coup de theatre extraordinaire (pardon my French). There’s another terror attack over North American airspace. A young African purported to be an extremist, highly trained in the art of concealing chemical weapons in undergarments, manages to deftly elude all airport security checks and board a flight while apparently, not even carrying a passport . The young follower of Bin-laden is destined to perform a kamikaze like stunt for his fellow passengers and set off a “dirty bomb”. Which reminds me, be vigilant and beware and of overweight flatulent flyers with matches on board. Luckily the airport scanners were already ordered and waiting to be installed before this happened. I bet the convicted and released rapists and registered pedophiles are lining up for job interviews with the transportation safety authorities right now.

In the meanwhile, American arms contractors are raking in the dough and rolling in it; making huge profits while the already bled –dry taxpayers foot the bill for all these expensive items. Lock -heed Martin is the big winner (Deal to maintain military cargo planes finally in sight, Globe and Mail, (01/06/2010) of the multi billion dollar deal. Of course parliament is conveniently silenced and there’s no debate or questioning on this in the house. Almost a week after the House of Commons coup, the enlightened dictatorship works like a Swiss clock. There’s complete secrecy and obfuscation about what’s going on in the corridors or perhaps more aptly put, bunkers of power. No inquires, no standing or sitting committees at work overseeing our exalted overlords in Ottawa. Conveniently the arms bonanza or shopping spree south of the border proceeds unimpeded by any parliamentary watchdog to growl at this purchasing orgy. Ditto. We now live in very dangerous world where turbaned extremists lurk everywhere wearing explosive underwear; the new weapons of mass destruction. With all these threats defence is part of the global game. I have no problem with that at all.

But surely there has to be some legislative oversight to monitor how these defence department monies are spent and on what. This rogue government is likely to exploit every day of the prorogation to spend more on whatever it fancies, like a drunken sailor without any accountability whatsoever. Meanwhile, the taxpayers get shafted in silence. Maybe this the time to buy some defence stocks? I wonder how our past living and much esteemed prime Ministers John Turner, Jean Chrétien, Joe Clark and the less revered Mr. Mulroney or the lovely and bubbly Kim Campbell feel and think of our benighted, great leader’s actions. So far they have been mute on the subject. If the ex-prime ministers maintain their radio silence for too long, this might be interpreted by the media (and this blogger as well) as tacit or consenting approval of this unconstitutional action. Speaking of consent, the G.G at the Rideau Palace might be pondering the wisdom of her nod to our great leader. Her majesty’s representative in her upcoming speech from the throne might feel a bit uneasy, sitting next to the great usurper. Two Canadian monarchs are better than one, right?
