It doesn’t look good for freedom folks. This country has a terminal case of prorogationitis it seems. The dreaded disease slowly attacks the central core of democracy such as Parliament, then spreads stealthily, like a malignant form of cancer to other parliamentary cells. In this case Ontario is now being diagnosed this with disease. The Premier of the Province has now publicly declared he wants to follow in the steps of our great leader (taking a few pages out of his game plan perhaps) and like a faithful Harperite, also seeks to prorogue the provincial legislature.

This saga is getting more sordid (yet fascinating to watch too) by the day. So what’s in store for us next? Shutting down both federal and provincial legislative bodies within in about the same time frame bodes ill indeed. Why not just cancel all Supreme Court proceedings also? Forcibly, retire all the chief judges who have an axe to grind with this government? Or exile the opposition into internal banishment to Iqualuit?

This is hardly reassuring for those still seeking a restoration of democracy. Go figure where this is headed. Our great leader has lately been telling a dictatorial state like Iran, how to run its affairs. Well, maybe he should re-open Parlaiment here at home, before he tells like-minded leaders, what they should do and how to run their affairs. In fact , if our great leader , grew some extra stubble on his face , like a beard, and dressed in those stylish Chinese tailored suits so popular in Tehran , he would then be the spitting –image of Ah(mad)inejad.

You know, in my journalistic peregrinations from one time zone to another on this great planet of ours, I’ve seen it all... well almost: coups, attempted putsches, martial law regimes in action, police state repression; you name it. But not in my entire experiences elsewhere have I ever imaged an all out, blitzkrieg like attack, as the one we are witnessing now on our democracy and of such treacherous perfidy here at home. Have Hitler’s children really taken over here? Where are the checks and balances to curtail these will –be despots from taking total control away from the electorate and then concentrating it inside their snowed- in bunkers and war rooms?

OK, let’s get back to the fast action on the ice. Which reminds of a very decent chap. I am talking abut Bob Gainey, ex-coach of the "Canadians" who recognises, the writing on the way when he sees it, and when he’s losing, decides to resign before the entire season is written off for the team and all the fans. Apparently, our great leader is a big fan of the puck sport too. Maybe he could take a hint and so do same thing and just step down with dignity before being banned for good from the game .
