Author Jeb Sprague will speak on the past and present role of paramilitarism in Haiti in subverting democracy and the popular will for social justice in that country. His book is based on extensive research and interviews in Haiti. He will talk about the hotly contested proposal of Haiti's current president, Michel Martelly, to revive a Haitian army that was disbanded in 1995 due to its long history of human rights violations.
