Join educators, students, parents, and members of BC Teachers for Peace and Global Education, Freewill Learning, and the Windsor House democratic school in an open discussion to build shared understandings of issues like isolation, education policy, and ultimately, what we want our educational system to do for us -- and how to get there.

Friday, September 21st, 5:30 - 8:30pm

SFU Harbour Centre in Room # 1315

*Due to a 42-seat capacity, please register (free) at the following link: http://towards_a_liberatory_learning_community.eventbrite.ca/

We'll also explore questions like:

How do educational institutions, policies, and practices isolate or integrate, atomize or unite, dishearten or empower students, teachers, and communities alike? To what extent do schools and universities meet our needs for free thought and inquiry, justice, creativity, companionship, acceptance, empathy, and support? And to what extent do they compel obedience, submission, and ignorance?

In a word, do our educational systems liberate or dominate--and what do we want them to do? These are some of the questions we will ask about education today, so that we can better understand what our values and goals for a liberatory learning community might be as we strive to envision worthy alternatives.
