“Punches way above its weight, as the best independent documentaries do” and “restores the honor of the great muckraking tradition of digging for answers long after the rest of the media has abandoned the scene.”
—James Wolcott, Vanity Fair

PEOPLE IN CANADA AND THE US DONATED MORE THAN $1.6 BILLION AFTER THE JANUARY 2010 EARTHQUAKE IN HAITI.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Filmmaker Michele Mitchell went to Haiti to find the answer—and what she found was the big business of emergency aid. Some say that what is happening is nothing more than disaster profiteering. Others say relief organizations are doing the best they can under very difficult circumstances.

Yet Haitians remain in squalid camps. Few have access to drinking water, sanitation is inadequate, and cholera is an ongoing threat. With at least 10,000 known aid groups operating in Haiti—the most per capita in the world—have conditions improved?

Haiti: Where Did The Money Go? takes viewers from crowded homeless camps to the boardrooms of relief organizations, talking to survivors, anthropologists, and aid experts to explore how disaster aid really works.
