The Indigenous Action Movement, will put on a 2nd Idle No More event, Thursday, January 24, 2012 at the Vancouver Public Library, 5:30 pm. The first event at the Peace Arch, was to show the relationship, and the extensiveness of the Salish territory which spans the border. [and runs from the southern part of Vancouver Island, the lower mainland to Lillooet, and down into Montana]
This 2nd event is also to support the Idle No More movement, and is a peaceful candlelight rally. Event goers will bring a photo of one of their ancestors, to pay homage to ancestors and residential school survivors past, who fought for Indigenous rights and who did not survive to witness the resurgence of First Nations self-determination.
Inspired by the four original organizers of Idle No More, who shared learned knowledge of impacts that Harpers Bill C 45 and other bills will impose on First Nations rights and the environment, this movement has grown into a world, environmental stand against Governments unstoppable partnership with extractive corporations- private, foreign, and global, whose only purpose is the acquisition, exploitation, and control of land and water for financial gain. Indigenous people are not the only ones dying from poison in the air and water. Mercury, cadmium and arsenic is smothering the waters.
The one question I ask is, Environmental and Indigenous activists are called terrorists for standing up for land and rights Once you learn about our reality, who do you think the real terrorists are?
