Two Total Liberation Workshops in Solidarity with the Unis'tot'en Resistance Community

Venue: Kiwassa Neighbourhood House
Address: 2425 Oxford Street
Cost: $2-$20 donation, no one turned away
Accessibility: Kiwassa is wheelchair accessible, and has an elevator to the second floor (where we will be). There are washrooms on the main level and one gender neutral washroom upstairs. There will be signs directing you to the workshops which will be held in the Senior's Room.

Julie-Anne Blackpen:  Whale Tales-  Intersections of Undersea Oppression

Through stories of orca’s, I hope to explore some of my questions.
I have no answers, only a lot of questions, and a few ideas.

What responsibilities do we share with non-domesticated, indigenous non-humans?
How is the animal - lib movement connected to anti-capitalist & anti-colonial resistance?
Conscious of the damages of representing struggles outside of our experiences, how can the autonomy of non-humans be acknowledged through our organizing?

Julie Anne makes mischief on the Large Island, Traditional Lekwungen Territories.
Her workshop will try to be a horizontal & anti-oppressive space.

 

Mya Mayhem and Tim Rusmisel:  Intersections of Oppression and Why Animals Are Excluded from Many Liberation Struggles

Oppression is something that many beings face, regardless of race, color, gender, sexual orientation or species. Why is it that animals are so often left out of radical liberation struggles? Join Mya Mayhem and Tim Rusmisel as they facilitate a discussion about how anarchist, feminist, environmental and other struggles are intertwined and how we can move towards uniting in the fight for total liberation.

Mya Mayhem and Tim Rusmisel are passionate vegan straightedge anarach@-feminist activists who have been dedicated to total liberation struggles for over a decade.
