On Sunday May 5th, the Free the Cuban 5 Committee-Vancouver invites you to join us for a Day of Action, marking 90 consecutive months of protest in front of the U.S. Consulate in Vancouver for the freedom of the Cuban 5. Since the 5 Cuban heroes were first arrested in 1998, they have stood strong for justice and the dignity of oppressed people everywhere fighting against U.S.-backed terrorism. For peace-loving people in Canada, they are our example in the struggle for a better world. 

As we mark the 90th protest action in the campaign to free the Cuban 5 here in Vancouver with a vigil, a march to the U.S. Consulate and a picket action, we will follow the lead of Gerardo, Ramón, Antonio, Fernando and René:

WHO ARE THE 5 CUBAN HEROES?

Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando González and René González, also known as the Cuban 5, are currently serving outrageously long sentences, including even a double-life sentence plus fifteen years, in the United States. They were wrongly accused and convicted in a U.S. Federal Court of “conspiracy to commit espionage” and other fabricated charges. The 5 were actually unarmed men involved in monitoring Miami-based terrorist organizations, which since 1959 have been responsible for the deaths of over 3,400 people in Cuba, including one resident of Canada, Fabio di Celmo, in 1997. Through their important work, these 5 men were able to prevent further deaths in Cuba.

El domingo 5 de mayo, el Comité de Vancouver por la Liberación de los Cinco Héroes Cubanos les invita a nuestra Jornada de Acción, marcando los 90 meses consecutivos de protestas al frente del Consulado Norteamericano en Vancouver por la libertad de los Cinco Héroes. Desde que los Cinco (como se les conoce internacionalmente) fueron arrestados en 1998, se han mantenido en su posición por la justicia y la dignidad de los pueblos oprimidos luchando contra el terrorismo respaldado por los Estados Unidos. Pasa las personas que amamos la paz en Canadá, ellos son nuestro ejemplo en la lucha por un mundo mejor. 

Al cumplirse nuestra acción de protesta número 90 en la campaña para liberar a los Cinco Héroes Cubanos, acá en Vancouver, con una vigilia, una marcha hacia el Consulado de Estados Unidos, y una acción de piquete, seguiremos el ejemplo de Gerardo, Ramón, Antonio, Fernando y René:

¿QUIÉNES SON LOS CINCO HÉROES CUBANOS?

Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando González y René González, más conocidos como los Cinco, están en estos momentos cumpliendo escandalosas sentencias incluyendo dos cadenzas perpetuas más quince años. Fueron injustamente juzgados y condenados en la Corte Federal de Estados Unidos por “conspiración para cometer espionaje” y otras acusaciones fabricadas. Los Cinco eran realmente hombres desarmados que se encontraban monitoreando las organizaciones terroristas refugiadas en Miami, que desde 1959 han sido responsables de la muerte de más de 3400 personas en Cuba, incluyendo un residente de Canadá, Fabio di Celmo, en 1997. A través de su importante trabajo, estos cinco hombres lograron impeder más muertes en Cuba.
