On September 12, 2013, the 15th anniversary of the arrest and imprisonment of the Cuban 5, our 5 Heroes released a statement saying, “We will never surrender one iota the moral advantage that has allowed us to resist and grow, as we bear all the weight of the vengeful weight of the most powerful planet on earth.”

Over the last 15 years of their imprisonment, it is words like these spoken from within US jails that have shown the great strength and humanity of our 5 Cuban Heroes. While the Cuban 5, so full of inspiration, love and hope remain behind bars, the anti-Cuban terrorists responsible for the deaths of nearly 3500 people since 1959 walk freely in the United States.

October 6th marks the 37th anniversary of one of the anti-Cuban terrorist actions that have yet to see justice. On October 6th,  1976 a bomb exploded mid-air on Cubana Flight #455. All 73 innocent passengers on board were killed. The man responsible for masterminding the bombing, Luis Posada Carriles, has never been brought to justice for this crime. It is crimes like those committed by Luis Posada Carriles that the 5 Cuban heroes were working to prevent when they were arrested and put in US jails.

As peace and justice loving people we must bring a end to this injustice and keep struggling until ALL of the Cuban 5 are free!

WHO ARE THE 5 CUBAN HEROES?

Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando González and René González, also known as the Cuban 5, are currently serving outrageously long sentences, including even a double-life sentence plus fifteen years, in the United States. They were wrongly accused and convicted in a U.S. Federal Court of “conspiracy to commit espionage” and other fabricated charges. The 5 were actually unarmed men involved in monitoring Miami-based terrorist organizations, which since 1959 have been responsible for the deaths of over 3,400 people in Cuba, including one resident of Canada, Fabio di Celmo, in 1997. Through their important work, these 5 men were able to prevent further deaths in Cuba.

WHAT IS THE YELLOW RIBBON CAMPAIGN?
In May of 2013, René González, one of the Cuban 5 returned to Cuba. From his home in Cuba, René González has launched a new Yellow Ribbon campaign for the Cuban 5 heroes. René has asked the people of Cuba to saturate the island with yellow ribbons, as a symbol of their desire to see all of their 5 heroes return. The Free the Cuban 5 Committee - Vancouver and supporters of the Cuban 5 are bringing the Yellow Ribbon campaign to the streets of British Columbia. As René has said, "My desire is that on September 12 yellow ribbons will appear in trees, on balconies, on people's arms, on their pets or however they want to display it.”

El 12 de septiembre de 2013, en el 15 aniversario del arresto y encarcelamiento de los Cinco, nuestros Cinco Héroes divulgaron una declaración diciendo: “…nunca cederemos, ni un ápice, en la ventaja moral que nos ha permitido resistir y aun crecernos mientras soportamos todo el peso de un odio vengativo por parte del gobierno más poderoso del planeta”.

Durante los últimos 15 años de su encarcelamiento, son palabras como esas, dichas desde el interior de cárceles de los Estados Unidos, las que han postrado la gran fortaleza y el humanismo de nuestros Cinco Héroes Cubanos. Mientras los Cinco, tan llenos de inspiración, amor y esperanzas permanecen tras las rejas, los terroristas anti-cubanos responsables por la muerte de casi 3500 personas desde 1959, viven libremente en Estados Unidos.

El 6 de octubre se cumple el aniversario 37 de una de las acciones terroristas anti-cubanas que aún no ha encontrado justicia. El 6 de octubre de 1976, una bomba explotó en pleno vuelo del Avión de Cubana, vuelo #455. Todos los 73 pasajeros inocentes a bordo de la nave murieron. El hombre responsable por organizar el sabotaje, Luis Posada Carriles, nunca ha sido llevado a los tribunales por este crimen. Son crímenes como este cometido por Luis Posada Carriles los que los Cinco Héroes Cubanos estaban tratando de evitar cuando fueron arrestados y encerrados en cárceles norteamericanas.

¡Como personas que amamos la paz y la justicia, debemos poner fin a esta injusticia y seguir luchando hasta que TODOS los Cinco Cubanos sean libres!

El 5 de octubre, el Comité de Vancouver por la Liberación de los Cinco les invita a unirse en la demanda:

¿QUIÉNES SON LOS CINCO HÉROES CUBANOS!

Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando González y René González, también conocidos como los Cinco, están actualmente cumpliendo sentencias escandalosamente largas, incluyendo una doble cadena perpetua más quince años, en los Estados Unidos. Fueron injustamente acusados y condenados en una Corte Federal de Estados Unidos por “conspiración para cometer espionaje” y otros cargos fabricados. Los Cinco eran realmente hom bres desarmados involucrados en la vigilancia sobre organizaciones terroristas basadas en Miami, las que desde 1959 han sido responsables por la muerte de más de 3400 personas en Cuba, incluyendo a un residente en Canadá, Fabio di Celmo, en 1997. A través de su importante trabajo, estos cinco hombres lograron impedir más muertes en Cuba.

¿QUÉ ES LA CAMPAÑA DE LAS CINTAS AMARILLAS?
En mayo de 2013, René González, uno de los Cinco, regresó a Cuba. Desde su hogar en Cuba, René ha pedido al pueblo cubano que saturen la isla con cintas amarillas, como símbolo de su deseo de ver a todos sus cinco héroes regresar. El Comité de Vancouver por la Liberación de los Cinco y simpatizantes de los Cinco están llevando la Campaña de las Cintas Amarillas a las calles de Columbia Británica. Como René ha dicho: “Mi deseo es que el 12 de septiembre aparezcan cintas amarillas en árboles, balcones, en los brazos de la gente, en sus mascotas o comoquiera que deseen mostrarlas”.
