Our planet is in trouble. If we want to solve the environmental crisis, we need to do more than recycle and ride our bike. We need new ways to practice the art of making love.

So says Professor Serena Anderlini one of the world’s leading theorists on green sexuality. She is the author of the just published Gaia and the New Politics of Love, and will speak in Vancouver on Tuesday November 24.

Professor Anderlini proposes that in a warring and overheated world we adopt “lovestyles” that encourage the caring for and sharing of resources in ethical and consensual ways.

She highlights polyamorous and bi-sexual lifestyles as models of this type of loving. They expand beyond the limiting “binaries” of monogamy and gender. They emphasize sharing, openness, abundance rather than ownership, armor, and scarcity.

According to Anderlini, sex-positive innovations in loving are an important but so far much neglected strategy to heal the planet.

Professor Anderlini is a writer, educator, activist, scholar, and cultural theorist. Her numerous books include Gaia (2009), Lambda finalist Eros (2007), Plural Loves (2005), Women and Bisexuality (2003), and a forthcoming collection on bisexuality and queer theory.
