On July 26th, 1953 a group of Cuban revolutionaries led by Fidel Castro attacked the Moncada Army Barracks. Although this attack was defeated militarily, taking the lives of dozens of rebel fighters and imprisoning many others, including Fidel Castro, it is seen as the beginning of the Cuban revolution. It is the July 26th Movement, named after this initial defeat, that led the Cuban revolution to victory under the leadership of Fidel Castro, Che Guevara and their compañeros.

In May the 2014 Che Guevara Volunteer Work Brigade was in Cuba, visiting Havana, Caimito, Sancti Spiritus, Trinidad and Santa Clara. This group of over 30 participants from across Canada visited schools, medical clinics, cultural projects, historical sites and had a chance to work side-by-side with Cubans. On July 26th, many BC participants will join us to show photos and give a report back on this important experience.
 
Please join us in the beautiful Trout Lake Park to commemorate the July 26th movement and learn about the Che Brigade through a program of dynamic speakers, poets, musicians and good food!

>> All money raised and donations made will be donated to the campaign to bring a new Water Pump to the ‘Julio Antonio Mella’ Volunteer Work Camp in Caimito, Cuba where the Che Guevara Volunteer Work Brigade stays and works every year! <<

El 26 de Julio de 1953, un grupo de revolucionarios cubanos encabezados por Fidel Castro atacaron el Cuartel Moncada. Aunque el ataque fue una derrota military, que costó la vida de docenas de luchadores rebeldes y el encarcelamiento de muchos otros, incluyendo a Fidel Castro, se ve como el inicio de la Revolución Cubana. Fue el Movimiento 26 de Julio, que tomó el nombre de esta derrota inicial, lo que llevó a la Revolución Cubana a la victoria, bajo la guía de Fidel Castro, Ernesto Che Guevara y sus compañeros.

En mayo de 2014, la Brigada de Trabajo Voluntario Ernesto Che Guevara estaba en Cuba, visitando La Habana, Caimito, Sancti Spíritus, Trinidad y Santa Clara. Este grupo de más de 30 participantes de todas partes de Canadá visitó escuelas, clínicas médicas, proyectos culturales, sitios históricos y tuvo la oportunidad de trabajar al lado de los cubanos. El 26 de julio, muchos participantes de Columbia Británica se unirán a nosotros para mostrar fotos y dar un reporte sobre esta importante experiencia.

Por favor, únase a nosotros en el bello Paruqe Trout Lake (Trout Lake Park) para conmemorar el Movimiento 26 de Julio y saber de la Brigada Che Guevara. ¡A través de un programa dinámico, con oradores, poetas, músicos y buena comida!
