Sunday, January 25th at 7PM: “Filaki” - Prison World, followed by discussion with longtime anti-prison and prisoner rights activists (details below).

A short documentary from Greece about the prison society, its role in social control and the ongoing rebellion against it.

The film focuses on prison uprisings in response to political repression and social war against Greek comrades, as well as hunger strikes against Type-F prisons in Turkey, a phenomenon quickly spreading to Greece.

This final film in the prison series of Spartacus Film Nights will be followed by an open discussion in which the organizers will be joined by Lora McElhinney (Joint Effort) and Meenakshi Mannoe.

Lora has been a member of Joint Effort since 1999. Joint Effort is a collective of women from the outside and women from the inside who do workshops of mutual interest inside prisons in BC. From prisoners and this "joint effort," Lora has learned the radical importance of breaking isolation and carries that in everything else that she does including adult education, translation and writing.
