CANCELLED***Info Night: Turkish Anarchists and the Fight For Kobanê

7:00pm
- 9:00pm
Wednesday March 11 2015

Venue: 38 Blood Alley
Address: 38 Blood Alley Square, Vancouver, British Columbia V6B 0C4
Cost: FREE
Accessibility: The venue is situated on the south side of Blood Alley Square. There are several cobblestones, but there is ramp access and it’s an open space once inside. There are fewer cobblestones to navigate coming from Abbott vs Carrall. The washroom is not fully WC accessible, the doorway is about 27 inches wide. There is also a place nearby where there is a more accessible bathroom.

Just last year, very few people had heard of Kobanê, but when ISIS launched an attack on the town in September 2014, the Kurdish stronghold was rapidly transformed into a global symbol of resistance against fascism and religious extremism.

This info night will include a presentation on the Kurdish & Turkish anarchist groups Revolutionary Anarchist Action (DAF) and the Peoples Defense Units (YPG) and Woman’s Defense Units (YPJ). For the past several months, these groups have been on the frontlines in the fight against ISIS and have established an autonomous zone on the tenets of feminism, resistance against capitalism, and horizontal decision-making.

DISCLAIMER: This presentation is intended for educational purposes only.
