THE IMPACT OF CIVIC PLANNING POLICY ON THE FUTURE OF THE CITY'S COMMUNITIES

7:00 - 8:30, Friday, May 13th, 2011
at the Unitarian Church of Vancouver (949 West 49th Avenue)
This is an opportunity for the citizens of Vancouver to directly address issues of development planning policy and its effects on the City's communities with Councillors Suzanne Anton, George Chow, and Ellen Woodsworth, and candidate Bill McCreery, a former Parks Board Commissioner.
The SMNA has been concerned about the excessive development proposed for the Shannon Estates site at the corner of Granville and West 57th Avenue. The cause of much neighbourhood disruption through development is felt to be due to City Council's lack of planning for community growth and a failure to protect the interests of the communities affected. As all your communities have faced similar concerns, we would like to ask you for your support for and participation in this town hall meeting. We feel that involving as many neighbourhood associations as possible will better inform the communities about City policy and let our elected officials understand more clearly our neighbourhoods' concerns.
We ask you to inform your members and communities about this event and to send representatives to engage our guests.
The format will be an hour-and-a-half meeting that will be open to the public. We expect to start with a position statement from each guest, a short debate amongst the candidates, and then an open question and answer period. The venue will seat about 250 people with additional standing room. We hope to have considerable media coverage.
