On the final day of the convergence to oppose the 2010 olympics, a march for housing ended with a tent village being erected in the downtown east side of Vancouver, demanding (among others) the social housing the VANOC promised when bidding for the games.
Since 2003 homelessness in Vancouver has more than tripled, over 1200 social housing beds have been lost, and VANOC has retreated on their pledge to turn parts of the athletes village into social housing.
On the opening night of the tent village, Vancouver's poet laureate, Brad Cran (who turned down cultural olympiad funding due to its anti-free-speech restrictions), and many others from the arts and activism community in Vancouver had a poetry reading to entertain and inform.
