Matt called this morning and asked that I please take it down. He said he made a mistake in talking to me about this stuff...

This is one of those tough moments as a journalist where it's hard to know how to make the call. I'm hoping we can get the piece back up within a couple hours.

Weird

Hurray for Dawn. At least the skeleton remains, 11:23 pm on 12 April. Read the article? I just wanna listen to those bones rattle! This used to be audio, right?

Audio and an Article

Hi Joseph, there was previously a short audio clip and a story. I am hoping that we'll have something up (either the original or an explanation) shortly.

Hey folks. 

Matt here.Thanks so much Dawn for interviewing me about my bid for the Vancity Board of Directors. Much appreciated. Unfortunately during the interview I ran my mouth in contravention of the campaigning guidelines I had agreed to, including:

 

"- it is not appropriate nor permitted for a candidate to claim that he or she has or will implement specific platforms or policies.
-Candidates must not make promises of what will happen or what actions they will support if they are elected to the board in any materials that they distribute or that tend to support them, directly or indirectly. 
-There will be no negative campaigning; candidates may not make or support negative comments about Vancity, its management, staff, Board, or other candidates."
 
So realizing that I had run afoul of the guidelines, I asked Dawn to remove the interview so I can continue with my bid. She very kindly agreed, which is much appreciated. Its 100% my bad, and I totally appreciate the shitty position I put her in professionally and personally.
 
Whether I agree with the guidelines or think they are supportable isn't the point here. I am trying to do something pretty weird for me (and perhaps rather questionable) which is get elected to Canada's biggest credit union with $14.5 billion dollars in assets and $75 million in 2010 profits. Thats our money and I would like to have a say in what kind of city it builds. There is a ton of potential there to really impact the affordability, equity and trajectory of the city. 
 
I feel like if elected I will continue to be myself, and be fierce and outspoken for important, radical politics. 
 
Its a total longshot, but I am taking that shot, and want to continue to do so. Having that interview up will likely disqualify me, so I am grateful for its removal.
