I usually gripe about transportation on my blog posts, but this is something really worthwhile - free cycling safety and bike maintenance couses. Please spread the word!

Bike Vancouver and the Vancouver Area Cycling Coalotion want you to become a confident city rider! This fun, practical and hands-on course is for anyone who’d like to be more comfortable on their bike, especially on the road and in traffic. Through classroom and on-road training you'll learn about the safest place on the road to ride, how to maneuver your bike effectively, communicate with other road users, handle riding at night and in the rain, and more. You’ll gain the skills and confidence you need to enjoy riding in the city!
The courses are offered at multiple skill and ability levels:
Level-2:
A level 2 course is for people who have passed level-1 or already have basic cycling
skills. The course is offered on local street bikeways but with real traffic conditions.
Those completing the course will be able to demonstrate the skills and understanding
to be able to make the majority of their trips by bicycle in the city.
Level-3:
A level-3 courses develops the basic skills and trains cyclists to make journeys in
a variety of traffic conditions competently, confidently and consistently. Those
completing level-3 will be able to demonstrate the skills and understanding to be able
to make their trip comfortably to school, work, or leisure on all types of streets found in Vancouver.
Family cycling course:
This fun, family orientated course is for parents who would like to be more comfortable riding on city streets and ensure that kids have the right skills from the beginning. Through classroom and on-road training you and your kids can learn about the basics of safe road riding, gain confidence with bike handling skills, and learn about the importance of respecting the rules of the road!
Bike Maintenance courses:
This fun, interactive workshop takes the mystery out of the bicycle. Participants bring their bikes and we show them how to do a basic inspection to make sure it’s in good running order. They learn how to clean and oil their bike, check their brakes and gears, and a few other tricks to make their riding experience more enjoyable. We cover fixing the dreaded flat tire (not really such a big deal after all!), and help participants decide when it's a good idea to take their bike to the shop.
