Join the VMC this month for a series of free skills-based workshops. May is Memership Month at the Media Co-op and we're looking for new  contributor members! Learn new journalism skills or brush up on the ones you already have. Come out and meet local Vancouver Media Co-op members and find out how to get involved. All are welcome! And don't forget about our community dinner on Thursday, May 31 - save the date!

Newswriting 101: Sunday, May 20, 3pm-4:30pm at the Dharma Lab (1814 Pandora St)

This course will walk participants through writing a news story, from
conception to publishing. Dawn Paley is a freelance journalist who
contributes regularly to the Vancouver Media Co-op.

Radical Media & Meet the VMC!: Wednesday, May 23, 6:30pm-8pm at Spartacus Books (684 East Hastings St)

VMC collective members will give a quick intro to radical media and
the VMC itself and hold an open discussion about membership, story
ideas, and whatever questions or issues you want to bring to the
table. Stop by and meet some local contributor and editor collective
members!

Intro to Interview Skills: Sunday, May 27, 11am-12:30pm. YWCA program centre (535 Hornby St) in the Skills Plus room.

Kathryn Gretsinger from the CBC will give a crash course in interview
skills, and the VMC will facilitate a discussion interviewing from a
grassroots radical media perspective.

Shooting in the Street – photojournalism for everybody: Sunday, May 27, 3pm-4:30pm at the Dharma Lab (1814 Pandora St, middle door, #202)

VMC editor and photographer Murray Bush will share photo-journalism
tips, from basic photo shooting to ethics to editing.

alley rear exit at grade by pre-arrangement; no washroom grab bar.

Spartacus Books: Access for persons with mobility disabilities
somewhat limited. First-floor storefront entry; no washroom grab bar.

Non-members by donation, no one turned away for lack of funds.
