A screening of "Roadmap to Apartheid" is happening at Spartacus Books!

"In this award-winning documentary, the first-time directors take a detailed look at the apartheid analogy commonly used to describe the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Roadmap to Apartheid is as much a historical document of the rise and fall of apartheid in South Africa, as it is a film about why many Palestinians feel they are living in an apartheid system today, and why an increasing number of people around the world agree with them." (http://roadmaptoapartheid.org/)

The movie starts at 7:30PM, and has a run-time of 95mins.

WARNING: the Palestine/Israel conflict can be depressing as fuck, and the documentary does contain some footage depicting military violence.

Spartacus Books is located on unceded Coast Salish Territories, which is particularly relevant to the topic at hand, because... hey! Did y'know apartheid in South Africa was modeled after parts of the Canadian Indian Act!? When calling out the colonialist state of Israel it is always nessacary to remember the indigenous struggles for sovereignty happening across Turtle Island as well, and the stolen land Canada is -also- founded upon.

It is also important to note the Canadian government's long-standing support for the Zionist state of Israel, especially after WWII when anti-Semitic politicians advocated for a Jewish homeland in Palestine as a way to keep Jewish refugees from settling in colonialist Canada.
