R E M E M B E R THE V A L D E Z !!

It could have happened here!

JOE OLIVER says not to worry, they are promising "world-class" oil/tar clean-up facilities on the coast to deal with the inevitable spills.
What isn't he understanding? NO TANKERS = NO SPILLS

This is further proof we are gonna have to fight to make sure Enbridge and KInder Morgan don't get the chance to threaten this amazing coast with a similar disaster to the Valdez. The EXXON VALDEZ ran aground on March 24th, Good Friday, 1989 at 12:04am. This Sunday will be the 24th anniversary.

Sunday will also be the 35th anniversary of the AMOCO CADIZ DISASTER. On this date in 1978 the tanker Amoco Cadiz split in two after having run aground three miles off the coast of Brittany, France. The Amoco Cadiz caused the world's worst oil tanker spill at the time. The entire cargo of 1,619,048 barrels spilled into the sea creating a slick 18 miles wide and 80 miles long which polluted approximately 200 miles of the Brittany coastline.

DO WE WANT THIS TO HAPPEN HERE?
JOIN THE FIGHT!

Here's the plan -
Part 1: We will be setting up our tanker, the MV. CLIMATE PIRATE, next to the Broadway City Hall Skytrain station on Cambie at Broadway on March 24th and will be handing out leaflets and blue drops as well as offering the public a chance to write a message on a blue drop to stick on the tanker.

Any people wishing to join in with a bit of drumming or noise making would be more than welcome.

Part two is a 350m long ( the length of a supertanker) burma shave style message reminding folks about the EXXON VALDEZ disaster and the dangers of the KINDER MORGAN and ENBRIDGE NORTHERN GATEWAY proposals. The line will start at Cambie and Broadway and stretch up Broadway to Heather. With one person (and one part of the message) every 10m or 30 feet, we will need 30 - 35 people to commit to be part of this amazing mass message.

Any people wishing to join in with drumming, singing, noise-making or casserole-banging would be more than welcome.

Danceremos!

SEE YOU SUNDAY!
