9-11 ORN-Media Bash 8pm-2am

On Friday, September 11th, join the Olympic Resistance Network for a Media Bash! The party will start at 8pm and go till late at 706 Clark Drive in Vancouver. It’s a night of music, film, food and more in an effort to fund grassroots media resistance.

ORN-Media is a forum for help and discussion for media makers committed to radical, independent media. We help you create, edit, research and publish your media. We work to put the eyes on the street for the people on the street. We are trying to raise funds to equip our media ninjas with some basic gear before the games.

FILMS

Un Poquito de Tanta Verdad: a film about resistance and alternative media in Oaxaca, Mexico during the uprising of 2006. “When the people of Oaxaca decided they’d had enough of bad government, they didn’t take their story to the media…they TOOK the media.” Director Jill Irene Freidberg will personally be in attendance for a Q&A session.

Resist 2010: a piece by BurningFist Media and no2010.com that documents 8 vital reasons to resist the Olympics.

MUSIC

Salvadorean rocker Alex Rambaud and Canadian musician Mark Penner will provide acoustic guitar tunes and take you on a journey of worldwide resistance.

DJ UsdNeedls will be mixing a selection of hip-hop tracks well into the night.

Alex Rambaud, (Black Mona Lisa, DLP, Circle´s Edge) has spent his life bouncing from Europe and Central America, to the US and now Canada. He has explored different genres of music from Punk to World Music, which has provided him with a unique style when it comes to song writing. The subject of his songs range from talking about the hardships of the Central American poor and the endless conflict in that part of the world, to the harsh reality of life for the homeless in modern western cities of the developed world.

Mark Penner is a Canadian musician and filmmaker who has been rocking it out for the better part of the last 15 years. He’s been playing numerous forms of music in several bands over the years, ranging from recording in Kenya, playing shows in Mexico, and several gigs across Canada. Percussive based rhythm guitar, and soulful solos are trademarks of his ecclectic sound, which has been refined over years of traveling and jamming. Mark’s songwriting is sometimes funky, sometimes funny, and often rings true Canadiana.

You have no choice. You have owners. They own you. They own everything. They own all the important land. They own and control the corporations. They’ve got the judges in their back pockets. And they own all the big media companies, so that they control just about all of the news and information you hear. They’ve got you by the balls. They don’t want a population of citizens capable of critical thinking. They don’t want well-informed, well-educated people capable of critical thinking. They’re not interested in that. That doesn’t help them. That’s against their interests.
