In the last 20 years, we have had more fires than in recent history, & burning is increasing at an alarming rate. These fires raise important questions: Are current levels of burning unprecedented? What is the role of climate change in altering natural fire systems? Do our forest ecosystems have the capacity to survive increased fire activity? Our understanding of wildland fires benefits from deep-time perspectives. Dr. Whitlock will describe how.
