Join us for an evening of food, speakers, performances, and short documentary  screening of "State Repression at Wente Winkul Mapu Community" which highlights the resistance of Mapuche communities in the south of "Chile"  (Wallmapu) facing resource extraction on unceded territories.

The Mapuche nations are located in the south of what is known today as Chile and Argentina, and are most well recognized for their fierce resistance against Spanish Colonization in the fight for land and sovereignty. Today, many Mapuche communities are facing intense repression by the chilean state for resisting the resource extraction on their ancestral lands.

To help contextualize the situation, Ruby Smith Díaz, a jamaican-chilean settler will be sharing her experiences from her recent trip to her mother's homelands in Chile, and Raúl Contreras from "chile" and masters student from SFU, will be sharing his learnings from living with Mapuche communities facing resource extraction on their ancestral homelands.

This night will close with Sarah Van Borek and Angelo Moroni who will be performing a mixture of songs influenced by the beauty of Latin America, Africa and North America.

Come learn more about the impacts of these projects and the ways in which people are already fighting back!
