3pm picket protest outside mega-developer Bob Rennie's olympic party in Chinatown

3:00pm
Mercredi Février 24 2010

Venue: Bob Rennie art gallery
Address: 51 E Pender

from CCAP:

We will be picketing Rennie’s art gallery (51 E Pender) at 3 pm today. His rep called to ask us if we could hold off protesting in exchange for his help to set up a 10 minute today with Liberal Ignatieff (ha ha!). Now it’s become irresistible. We’ve called the media and we’ll do something short and sweet. We’re making some signs at Carnegie if you want to come by and help.

Some good Bob Rennie, real estate mogul, quotes:
“Olympics are $6 billion marketing and branding campaign for Vancouver”
“Vancouver is a resort city, a world class city”
“The Olympics is going to have the single largest impact on our city…..on affordable, I’m not talking about social housing”
“Toronto=business
Calgary=oil
Seattle=high tech
Vancouver=real estate”
“The world will stop creating problems.”
“My bet is the province will maintain hotels until after 2010 and then sell off or decentralize to other areas”
On the DTES: “We’re running out of developable land. Either Vancouver stops growing or we move east. The city has nowhere to grow but East”
Brags to developers at the UDI: “I sold a Strathcona home for $99,000 and now its worth “950,000”
“resort city trend likely to accelerate from Olympics”.
