Since the early 1990s when Correctional Services Canada discontinued accredited university programs people in prison have had to rely on expensive correspondence programs, inadequate libraries, and other hard to come by resources in order to further their knowledge while serving time. However, education is regarded as the single most effective prevention against re-offending, providing people in prison with improved self-esteem, communication skills, & greater employability prospects upon release. Join us for an interactive panel discussion that will explore some of the ways people are working to create access to education behind bars. Featuring Shoshana Pollack (Coordinator of National Inside-Out Program training, Wilfred Laurier),  Kim Williams (UFV), and Liz Fulton Lyne (Greater Edmonton Library Assocation). Sponsored by the SFU Women's Centre and SFPIRG.
