Westcoast Sheen and Rhizome Cafe are hosting this event to learn about the history of Black communities in Vancouver in honor of Black History Month. Featuring poet/historian Wayde Compton, an update from attorney Ros Salvador on the case of the Khaira workers, and DJ Static.

Wayde is a Vancouver writer. He and Jason de Couto perform turntable-based sound poetry as a duo called The Contact Zone Crew. Wayde co-founded Hogan's Alley Memorial Project, which is dedicated to preserving the public memory of Vancouver's original black community.

DJ Static is the DJ for Nomadic Massive, a multicultural multilingual hip-hop group whose members come from Haiti, Algeria, Iraq, China, Argentina, Chile and France. Their music mixes sounds and influences from around the world with a critical and conscious global outlook.

This talk is brought to you by the Westcoast Sheen Community Speakers Series. The series aims to inspire reflection and discussion in a safe atmosphere. Everyone is encouraged to participate, so bring your questions!
