April 20, 2011 is the one-year anniversary of the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and people around the world are rising up against irresponsible extraction for the Rising Tide Day of Action Against Extraction. Join us in a rally against irresponsible extraction on Wednesday at 10:30am and demonstrate your support for environmental justice and a sustainable future.
A year after the BP oil spill crews are still working to clean 380 kilometers of coastline, with an additional 480 kilometers slotted for cleanup later this year. The worst maritime oil spill in history bears remembering. It is a devastating instance of what happens when extractive industries behave irresponsibly, and a bitter reminder of the need to safeguard our communities and ecosystems against similar fates.
