Amnesty International is partnering with Lawyers Rights Watch Canada
and the Hul’qumi’num Treaty Group to bring you a series of lectures on
the issue of First Nations’ Rights: "The Gap between Law and
Practice".
The first lecture will be given by Dr. Grace Woo, author of Ghost
Dancing with Colonialism. Dr. Woo will discuss if the Supreme Court of
Canada is colonizing Indigenous peoples? She will do so by taking a
hard look at Anglo-Canadian legal history, international law and
Supreme Court of Canada reasoning.
She will explain how her research can be used to diagnose the remnants
of colonialism that continue to haunt Aboriginal and Indigenous
Canadians alike.
This event is on Thursday, January 12th at 7:00 pm in the Alma
VanDusen Room, Lower Level, Vancouver Central Library (350 West
Georgia St.). Admission is free. Seating is limited.
