What: State of Extraction conference
When: March 27-29, 2015
Where: Simon Fraser University, Downtown Campus
The Simon Fraser University Institute for the Humanities is hosting a conference called the "State of Extraction" from March 27 to 29, and is inviting media to interview speakers.
Seventy-five percent of the world's mining companies are based in Canada – the majority of head offices are in Vancouver. This conference is the first of its kind that considers the social and environmental impacts of Canadian-led fossil fuel and rare earth metals extraction globally.
The conference brings together indigenous leadership, academics, artists and public intellectuals from a variety of disciplines, activists engaged in various struggles related to resource extraction (including oil, gas, coal and rare earth metals), representatives of affected communities from the global north and south.
A full list of speakers is available here: http://stateofextraction.org/category/presenters
