A bright sunny morning saw 50 people gather outside Tinseltown mall to protest gentrification and the infectious spread of high-price condominiums in the Downtown East Side (DTES).

The demonstration kicked off the Boycott Sequel 138 project: a move to stop the development of condos in the DTES that is pushing low-income communities out of the area.

Sequel 138 promotes itself as a project that aiming to provide "affordable, entry-level housing for artists and workers in non-profits helping the people of the Downtown Eastside Vancouver, BC."

Community members ranging from DTES activists, senior citizens and artists denounced Sequel 138 for trying to use the banner of affordable housing to rip the heart right out of the area.

Sequel Condo-Boycott Launch

Hello,

Thanks for the speedy coverage today; good photos!

It was tough conditions for the electronic media--we got stuck outside amid the roar of condo-construction across the street.  It made for a tremendous racket-- a steady procession of concrete trucks revving up and doing concrete-pours.  I doubt will get any radio or tv.

But we'll show up at every public event about condo development downtown that we can, and perhaps at some priveate ones as well.

Looks like there's typos in your last sentence.  It needs to start with "But..." -- and a word seems to be missing in the middle: "...artists slammed Sequel..." or "criticized Sequel..." etc.

Thanks again for being on the spot and putting up coverage of our event

Onward,

Rider Cooey
