DOWNTOWN EASTSIDE - There was plenty of Sockeye to go around tonight as the Homeless Tent City in Oppenheimer Park hosted a feast for all comers. The meal rounded out three days of salmon and celebration marking the first month of the occupation of the park and the eviction of the City from Native land.

The salmon was donated by fisher Joshua Duncan  and cooked on a woodfire griller while a Vancouver Fire Department representative and police looked on from the sidelines to "ensure safety." Feasters also got meatball soup with bannock and roasted chicken.

Elders ate first after a blessing and organizers and volunteers kept the food line moving.

The camp is now a month old and organizers say they are in for the long haul until the City provides adequate housing for the growing number of homeless. Organizer Brody Williams said regular meetings continue with the City to push for proper housing and for a healing centre in the old VPD building on Main.
