Filmed at a community meeting in Vancouver:
Event sponsored by: Streams of Justice, Rising Tide Coast Salish Territories and No One Is Illegal - Coast Salish Territories.
  • Best viewed direct from the Vimeo home location as there are markers in the text descriptive field which allow viewers to advance to any of the three speakers.
  • Just click on the  bold time timestamp  number after the speakers name.

First Nations area spokesperson Kanahus presents a documented report on the outrageous background of neglect by Imperial Mines which lead up to the gigantic tailing pond spill at their Mount Polley BC mining location.
The total environmental devastation which this has created is just in the beginning stages of being properly covered or understood.
The collapse of the Imperial Metals tailing pond into Quesnel Lake is the biggest mining disaster ever. 1/4 of the Fraser sockeye rear in this lake, people drink the water, wildlife depends on it.
  • This spill is reported to have contained 5 million cubic meters of sludge and fluids containing lead, mercury, arsenic, copper and zinc, all spilled into the pristine salmon bearing waterways of BC which in turn flow into the Fraser River.
***Please stay tuned for part-2 of this full length event coverage: hear & see the whistle blower reports on the disgraceful actions of Imperial Metals and the treatment of on site employees who tried to warn of this upcoming disaster.
  • Hear the stunning amount of toxic content this spill has released into our waterways and surrounding lands, as reported by guest speaker Anushka Nagiir. The collapse of the Imperial Metals tailing pond into Quesnel Lake is the biggest mining disaster ever. 1/4 of the Fraser sockeye rear in this lake, people drink the water, wildlife depends on it.
** A special word of thanks goes out to Jeremy Williams of River Voices Productions for supplying some aerial still footage shots of the spill area.  A short video of River Voices showing more details of what actually took place may be viewed here, Mount Polley B roll.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XMMe67i0jS8&feature=youtu.be
