Mapuche Indigenous Political Prisoners Back on Hunger Strike

PUBLIC COMMUNIQUE

The Mapuche Political Prisoners undersigned, members of the CAM [Arauco Malleco Coordinator], held in Lebu prison, communicate the following to our Mapuche Nation and International opinion:

As you all know, four members of the CAM have been sentenced after a prolonged investigation and judicial trial, where we and 13 other brothers were accused and charged under the Antiterrorist Law.

The Cañete Public Court has ruled on this conviction solely on the declarations of secret witnesses and misleading testimonies, which would be unacceptable anywhere else in the world.

Since we did not receive a fair trial, and thus are risking prolonged sentences in jail, we have decided to initiate an indefinite liquid hunger strike, in order to achieve the following demands;

• A fair and just trial

• No use of secret witnesses, or use of the Antiterrorist Law

• Nullify the judicial hearings

• To be judged by competent and impartial courts

• Transfer to Angol Prison and decent prison conditions
