A group of residents from the Fraser Street Homeless Shelter have set up tents to squat at the alley entrance of the shelter. Today these people expressed their desire to have this action grow into something larger. Support from the community is needed!
On Monday May 2 there will be a meeting between Fraser residents and supporters to discuss what is necessary, what is possible, and how to move forward. Please join for food/potluck at 6pm, and a meeting at 6:30pm sharp.
Please come down for a visit, or even better to tent and join the squat! We need to build a presence so that the city knows that people demand affordable housing and that the low-barrier shelters that were just closed be re-opened.
Things that would be useful to drop off at the site include:
- Food, water, coffee
- Toilet paper and toiletries
- Tents, sleeping bags, blankets
- Portable stoves and cooking supplies
- Tarps and plastic, wood, ropes, tape, broom
- Pallets
- First aid and medical supplies, Hand Sanitizer
- Tables and chairs
- Condoms, rigs, safe disposal boxes
- Paint, Signs
Please forward to anyone you think might want to support!
