On Wednesday, Feb. 10th, over 150 supporters of Insite, North America's only supervised-injection site, surrounded the Chinese Cultural Centre, and wrapped it with caution tape, forcing Stephen Harper to postpone a scheduled visit. The public education event was a response to the Conservative governments decision to appeal the recent ruling of the B.C. Court of appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada. The B.C. appeal courts ruling allowed Insite to continue operating. Insite, which opened on Sept. 21, 2003, has been subject to rigorous scientific evaluation, producing over 25 peer-reviewed papers in prestigious scientific journals. The scientific data indicate Insite is meeting the following objectives:

- Reducing public injections

- Reducing overdose fatalities

- Reducing injection-related infections

- Improving public order

Supporters of Insite are frustrated that Stephen Harper continues to ignore the scientific evidence, and waste taxpayers money trying to shut down Insite. Although over forty police were called in the protest remained peaceful and no arrests were made.
