A rally calling on the Canadian Federal Government to create a National Housing Plan took place Feb.20th, 2010 on the north side of the Vancouver Art Gallery. Canada is the Only G8 nation without a National Housing Plan, and the UN now calls Canada's housing crisis 'a national emergency'. The rally drew hundreds of supporters who listened to speeches from a wide range of people, including Stella Duranger (DTES Power of Women), John Richardson (Pivot), Wendy Peterson (CCAP), Libby Davies (NDP), and the Raging Grannies, among others. The speakers called on the crowd to support the DTES Tent Village and the Red Tent Campaign as well as employing other tactics to end homelessness. The rally was the latest in a series of successful anti-olympic events which have denounced the games as a corporate spectacle paid for by the sweat and blood of workers and Indigenous people.
