On May 13, the Vancouver Community Mobilization Network organized the We Ate the G8 Teach-in at UBC Robson Square.

Before the event began, a security guard informed the group that the area was no longer public space but instead private since GE had bought the rink area, leasing part of it to UBC.

The event itself focused on the ongoing privatization of education, as well as notable alternatives to current institutions.
