VANCOUVER, Coast Salish Territories -  Hunger striker (formerly) Homeless Dave was wheeled into the headquarters of Vancity yesterday to confront the massive credit union on  its lending policies on Day 28 of his protest.

Accompanied by about a dozen Downtown Eastside residents, Dave asked Vancity v-p of business development Linda Morris about the credit union's policies on mortgages for the controversial Sequel 138 condo project.

Morris said her company isn't involved in the project but does provide mortgages for people who might buy a condo in a project like Sequel, just as other lending institutions do. “You can’t say that you are not at fault because other banks are doing this as well," Dave responded. "Other banks support the Enbridge Pipeline and you don’t, so it’s no excuse.”

Dave pushed for a commitment that Vancity would come out with public support for his social housing demands. Morris said only that she would be willing to meet with him again and that Vancity is "very concerned about (Dave's) health." Dave asked if the concern is so high, why no one from the credit union had come to see him.

"Vancity shouldn’t write on their website that I should quit this hunger strike. If you really cared about me and the community, why didn’t you come down to see me at the picket?  Why aren’t you supporting me?  Now even my doctors are telling me to stop.”

During the visit Dave weighed himself - having now lost 21 lbs in 28 days. After, Dave returned home to rest, still vowing to continue his hunger strike until all his demands are met.
