Dec. 6 Shoe Memorial

VANCOUVER - Stop the Violence (domesticabusemuststop.org)  held its eighth shoe memorial on the steps of the Vancouver Art Gallery today to mark the National Day of Mourning for murdered women.  Dec. 6 is the anniversary of the 1989 Montreal Massacre at L’Ecole Polytechnique when a gunman shot and killed 14 women because they were women.

The collected shoes represent an estimated 794 women violently killed over the past 20 years in BC.  For each pair of shoes the organization has a name and a date of a woman who was killed. The shoes have been donated by individuals and groups including teachers and credit unions.

great job

Great job Murray!

Been aware of this action since it began sometime ago. Participated with it in my days with WAVAW.

Thank you for covering it.
