Motorists and pedestrians walking through and past Burnaby's Crystal Mall on Thursday 22 September stopped to watch as 75 Hilton workers and their allies protested the hotel for not taking negotiations seriously.
Hilton workers, from cooks to housekeeping and bell-hops protested right outside the hotel as several cars, company vehicles and even a semi-truck honked in solidarity. Several local unions also showed support to the action.
One of the workers' largest issues with management was the latter's lack of sensitivity to staff getting hurt on shifts: staff had actually been fired from the hotel, being told their pain from working long shifts moving heavy beds was a sign of them being too old.
