FORT ST.JOHN, PEACE RIVER VALLEY- They are building the Site C Dam without public approval. Reports say as many as 1,000 people are already working on preparations at the dam site on the Peace River. Evictions of farm families that were originally three years have been moved up to less than six months. Local opposition to the massive hydro electric project is strong but the lure of temporary construction jobs is beginning to split the community. Most agree that any power generated would only be used for LNG and the Alberta Tar Sands. This is what it looks like from 2,000 ft up; the beautiful productive Peace River Valley and the destruction to make way for a third dam on the Peace.
