VANCOUVER - Unions are organizing a rally in solidarity with striking postal workers Friday, at the Canada Post plant in downtown Vancouver.

The rally follows ones today in both Ottawa and Winnipeg, criticizing Canada Post as well as the federal government for trying to force them back to work.

Postal workers continued walking a picket line after Canada Post locked them out Wednesday. The federal government has threatened to legislate them back to work on Monday. Union officials closed down the picket line at around 7:30pm. said the union president, because of concerns about the post-Stanley Cup situation.

Postal employees were on strike to call for improved work safety as the company modernizes, as well as stronger benefits, health packages, wages and job security. The company claims the strike had cost it more than $100 million in lost revenues. Canada Post CEO Deepak Chopra makes upwards of $650,000 a year in salary and bonuses.
