Announcing the 2nd Annual Comox Valley Anarchist Book Fair - May 3, 2014
(middle east Vancouver Island/unceded Coast Salish territory.)
Last year, in the spirit of rising anarchist resistance, and to honour our
fallen comrades from the past, we organized the first Comox Valley
Anarchist Book Fair for one day on the weekend immediately following May
Day. Once again, the book fair will be hosted on May Day weekend in
Cumberland (a small village in Comox Valley that was one of the major
sites of the largest labour revolt in BC history).
As 2014 unfolds, there is even more reason to focus on resistance as we
greet an ever growing number of anarchist revolutionaries, native warriors
and other social rebels who are engaging in movements against industrial
development, global capitalism and state control. While the book fair is a
place to check out and distribute books and publications, it's also a
place to communicate face to face between comrades and further our
individual and collective anarchist projects.
The day runs from 10 am to 5pm with tables in the Abbey, 2687 Penrith Ave
(entrance on 1st Street). Workshops, a by-donation food table and kids
space at the OAP Hall (right across the street from the Abbey). The
play/craft space will be set up for younger ones and caregivers to check
out. Workshops for kids will include martial arts, crafts, stories and a
plant walk with a local herbalist. Check out our blog or visit the "Kids
Space" at the Book Fair for more info.
At 7pm there will be a cabaret/open mic followed by festivities into the
night. Plenty of campsites will be availble and indoor lodgings can be
arranged as well for those in need. Stick around for a Sunday gathering
(more info and location TBA).
