On June 13th , another Casserole March was called for City Hall in Solidarity with the Quebec students fighting a substantial tuition increase. Around 8 a group of about 90 protesters and a few militant ones proceeded from the South Side of City hall across to the North Side in hopes of interrupting Mayor Gregor Robinson and city council’s meeting. Once we arrived at the front a few comrades made their way in and about half of the protesters followed. People began banging their pots and pans louder and louder as others threw City Hall’s propaganda in the air while ignoring the security guards. A few minutes later the police and guards started to lock the doors. Most protesters left to avoid being kettled inside. A confrontation ensued while a nearby Police Motorcycle was knocked over. This sparked outrage among the peaceful protesters. The peaceful protesters demanded the militant protesters to take off their masks. When they refused, the peaceful protesters began yelling and attempted to push the militant protestors out. These peaceful protesters must be unaware of the student group CLASSE, which have refused to condemn “Violent” protesters. The divide during the city hall action drew a wedge between the militant and the peaceful protesters. While they were debating we continued throughout the march tossing debris into the street as others proudly chanted “No Justice! No Peace. Fuck the Police!” This march has now obviously created anger within the peaceful protest scene while it has brought great joy to others who have experienced police repression and violence on a daily basis. For you the argument has resurfaced on tactics but for us its history. See you in the streets!
