One of the Cheam defendants talks about the importance of the Cheam Fisheries case to indigenous sovereignty claims. The case is pitting six Cheam band members against the Department of Fisheries and Oceans over the right to fish in the unsurrendered Coast Salish Territories otherwise known as British Columbia.
