In Vancouver, Coast Salish territory, a small group of activists join the flag waving, kool-aid drinking, parade lovin good folks to make their voices heard. Armed with costumes and a message, the small group took direct action and joined the parade. They called, "shame on Canada for being complicit in the torture of Afghan detainees", and "shame on the Canadian government for not protecting Omar Khadr, a Canadian citizen that has been in Guantanamo Bay since he was 15 - almost 9 years ago".
Big thanks go to the Carnival Band who were so gracious with our sudden entrance! The crowd was impressed, and the marshals kept waving us through. A great time was had by all.
