One small act of solidarity leads to another.

The western Caravan to the Peoples Social Forum made its first stop on Friday, August 15 in Langley, BC, paying a visit to Jose Figueroa, who has been forced to live in church sanctuary to avoid deportation. Jose has been victimized by the immigration system simply because as a student he was an activist supporting the FMLN, the party which is now the elected government of El Salvador. The 'We Are Jose' campaign to allow Jose to remain in Canada has received widespread support. Since Jose could not attend the Social Forum, the group headed to Ottawa took a banner for him which will be displayed during the Opening Ceremony on August 21.
